Introduction to Capoeira

Introduction to Capoeira

$200.00

Developed in Brazil by enslaved Africans during the 16th century, the martial art of Capoeira incorporates dance, acrobatics, music, and the Portuguese language as a means of pursuing self-determination and building community. Introduction to Capoeira will offer beginning students the opportunity to learn key Capoeira techniques, including the fundamental Ginga, Au, Cororinha, and Meia-lua de Frente moves, while simultaneously promoting balance, coordination, endurance, and self-expression.

This class is taught by EBS Capoeira teacher Nathanael Morais, known in the Capoeira world as Mestre (Master) Tico, who began his Capoeira journey at the age of 7 in the northeastern Brazilian city of Fortaleza, Ceará. At age 14, he was invited to teach Capoeira internationally for the first time as a professional capoeirista. Since then, he has been an invited master teacher at Capoeira events in over 35 countries, including France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, China, Thailand, Colombia, South Africa, and the United States. In 2018, Mestre Tico won the World Championship of the World Capoeira Federation in Baku, Azerbaijan. In 2022, he founded Ilê Axé Capoeira to cultivate an inclusive and respectful space where students can grow in confidence, connection, and embodied self-expression.

This course will run from 6pm to 7:00pm on the following dates: 4/14, 4/21, 4/28, and 5/5.
