HEAD OF SCHOOL TRANSITION

Dana Rosenberg stepped down as the second Head of the East Bay School for Boys at the conclusion of the 2022/2023 school year. When we learned in December of Dana’s departure at the end of the 2022/2023, we formed a Head of School search committee comprised of EBSB faculty and staff and board members, as well as current parents, and launched a formal search to find just the right Head of School. It was important that we find a Head of School that shares the mission and values of EBSB, that is truly passionate and knowledgeable about the program, and who is ready to continue revolutionizing the middle school experience to meet the needs of 21st century boys.

We were stunned by the sheer number of highly qualified candidates who responded to our search.   After a thorough process by the Head of School Search Committee and following a vote by the Board of Trustees, EBSB found the perfect match! Robert Smith assumed responsbilities as the third Head of School of the East Bay School for Boys on July 1, 2023. Read more about Robert below.

Robert Smith

Robert is thrilled to join the EBSB team after serving as the Director of Admissions at Kehillah Jewish High School, an independent high school in Palo Alto.  With a deep involvement in Bay Area organizations that understand the imperative of putting students at the center, he is also a board member of Teach with Africa, the Keys School, and Jewish Learning Works.  Robert also co-founded an educational technology company, Edupath, dedicated to addressing pervasive disparities in access to college counseling and test preparation.

We also welcome Robert back to EBSB.  As a board member and board chair of EBSB from 2013 through 2020, Robert is also extremely familiar with EBSB having been a core part of EBSB’s story.  With his exceptional mix of experience and deep knowledge of EBSB, we are incredibly excited about his unique leadership as we look to EBSB’s future.
