East Bay School for Boys is seeking several talented teachers and administrators to add to our faculty for 2012/2013. We are a relatively new--starting our third year--independent middle school for boys located in Berkeley, California.
EBSB faculty are passionate leaders and learners dedicated to creating a community with a shared goal of building capacity in all of our boys; of helping to develop each boy’s cultural capital; of creating a safe, creative and exciting classroom and school environment; and of providing a stellar academic, physical and social/emotional experience for young men.
EBSB faculty play a significant part in creating the culture of the school. Their voices are important in finding and solving problems, in the design and implementation of the curriculum, and in creating innovative and sustainable programs. East Bay School for Boys recruits faculty from a variety of sources and seeks individuals who are well-suited to work with boys, who would enjoy a start-up environment, and who reflect the diversity within the school and of the East Bay.

When hiring faculty, East Bay School for Boys seeks individuals:
- who are experienced in working with middle school students;
- who can make learning irresistible through differentiation and a variety of teaching/learning modalities;
- who love teaching and working with boys;
- who are passionate about their subject area(s) and learning new things;
- who can do several things besides their main subject area;
- who are eager to work in an interdisciplinary and collaborative environment;
- who are creative and have good organizational, project-management, and communication skills;
- who are willing to assume a variety of roles within the school including academic and social/emotional advising and coaching;
- who have the energy, maturity and a sense of balance needed in a start-up school;
- who are creative, flexible and resilient educators;
- who make great role models for adolescent boys; and
- who have a sense of humor.
While we do not know all the 2012/2013 positions for which we will be hiring, we do know our school is expanding and that we will be hiring several new faculty members and one new administrator for next year.
Teaching Faculty
- 6th grade core teacher to teach two of the following (Spanish, Language Arts, Social Studies, Math and Science)
- 7th/8th Math Teacher
- 7th/8th English/Language Arts Teacher
- 7th/8th Spanish Teacher
- 7th/8th Science Teacher
- 7th/8th History Teacher (World Cultures in 7th and American in 8th)
- Several part-time teachers or one full-time teacher who could teach design thinking, building, engineering, art, physical education, drama, music, yoga or dance.
Administrator
We are seeking an individual to join our dynamic administrative team as a director; the title and salary will be commensurate with expertise and interest. The ideal candidate would have the qualities of a faculty member listed above and have expertise and interest in several of the following:
- Business and Finance: budgeting, finance oversight and planning, taxes, insurance, tuition management, etc.
- Communications: institutional storyteller, news updates, internal and external flow of communications
- Development: ability to work with the Development Chairs of the Board to design and implement the school’s development program, including the facilitation of the Annual Fund, the management of data, and the cultivation of friends and funds
- Teacher professional development: lead faculty to develop integrated, thoughtful and innovative curriculum; coach, observe, and develop goals with individual faculty members and continue to develop the school’s best teaching practices; write and facilitate the implementation of our individual student learning plans; develop and administer the systems and structures needed for the faculty to generate, communicate and remain thoughtful; lead report card, progress report and student-led conference processes
- Student development: facilitate social/emotional programming; develop in conjunction with the advisors an advisory curriculum; and work in conjunction with faculty to institute daily responsibilities, expectations and procedures of faculty and students
- Teaching: all administrators at EBSB also teach a few hours a week
